What it’s about. Seine Kameraden beneiden Kriegsheimkehrer Johnny Morrison, erwartet ihn doch im Gegensatz zu ihnen eine Familie zurück. Doch Morrison weiß, dass seine Rückkehr keine erfreuliche ist, kam doch sein Sohn während seiner Abwesenheit bei einem Unfall ums Leben. Doch das ist noch nicht alles. Seine Ehefrau Helen feiert bei seiner Ankunft gerade eine wilde Party. Er muss erkennen, dass sie ein Verhältnis mit Eddie Harwood, dem zwielichtigen Eigentümer des Nachtclubs „Die blaue Dahlie“, hat und Ursache für den Tod des Sohnes ihre Alkoholsucht war. Er trennt sich von ihr, verlässt die Stadt und trifft dabei auf die schöne und hilfsbereite Joyce, die – was er noch nicht ahnt – Harwoods gehörnte Gattin ist. In jener Nacht wird Morrisons Frau ermordet und die Polizei hält ihn für den Täter.
