Als sie in Frankreich eine Burg plündern sollen, in der Richard einen Goldschatz vermutet, die jedoch nur noch von einem Greis, Frauen und Kindern bewohnt wird, weigert sich Robin, den Befehl auszuführen. Der König ist außer sich und befiehlt seine Hinrichtung. Doch bevor es dazu kommen kann, trifft der Greis Richard Löwenherz mit einem Pfeil. Wenige Tage später stirbt er an Wundbrand.
