What it’s about. Kurz nach der Ankunft des seltsamen Harvey H. Potter geschieht in dem kleinen Städtchen Waterson, dessen Farmer durch eine langanhaltende Dürre vom Ruin bedroht sind, ein Wunder: Aus einer Hand voll Körnern, die Potter auf einem Feld aussät, wächst über Nacht ein Meer bunter Ballons. Fasziniert von diesem Geschehen kaufen die Menschen Ballons in ihren Lieblingsfarben und machen die beglückende Erfahrung, dass die Zauberballons ihnen Wohlbefinden und neue Hoffnung schenken. Doch die Dürre nimmt dennoch kein Ende, und so wendet sich die Hoffnung wieder in Misstrauen. Harvey Potter wird des Betrugs bezichtigt und aus der Stadt getrieben. Zum Glück hat jedoch die kleine Willow Johnson den Glauben an Potter und die Macht der "Zauberballons" nicht verloren und kann ein weiteres Wunder bewirken.
