What it’s about. Venedig, 1944: Max ist ein jüdischer Student und wird von den Nazis in Gefangenschaft genommen. Seine Verlobte, Hélène, gibt vor, ebenfalls Jüdin zu sein, damit sie zusammenbleiben können. Nun werden sie nach Polen deportiert – im Zug können sie noch heiraten und es gelingt ihnen sogar die Flucht. Doch dann nimmt die Gestapo ihre Spur auf. Hélène wird von ihrem Geliebten getrennt und muss unter der Aufsicht des sadistischen Offiziers Köller im Konzentrationslager Höllenqualen erleiden. Als Max von ihrem Tod erfährt, sinnt er auf Rache – und schließt sich 16 Jahre später mit Nazi-Jäger Simon Wiesenthal zusammen.
