What it’s about. Dieser Film zeigt in schonungslosen Bildern die Attica-Gefängnisrevolte,die nach 4 Tagen äußerst blutig beendet wurde. Die sogenannte Ära von "Frieden,Liebe und Verständnis" brach unter dem wachsenden Druck des Vietnamkrieges zusammen. Im September des Jahres 1971 explodieren diese Gegensätze in dem für seine Härte bekannten New Yorker Zuchthaus Attica,das von den Anwohnern "die Fabrik" genannt wird. Bei der Niederschlagung der Revolte machten die Nationalstreitkräfte keine Unterschiede zwischen Wachen und Inhaftierten. Ohne Erbarmen richteten sie ein Blutbad an,das in der Weltpresse größtes Aufsehen erregte. Dies ist die Geschichte des jungen Wärters Michael Smith,der schnell nach seinem Dienstantritt die brutalen Gefängnisprozeduren kennenlernt und sich auf die Seite der Inhaftierten stellt.
