Doch statt zum JFK-Flughafen bringt Mickey sie gleich zum Zielort New Orleans. Auf dem Weg dorthin verliebt er sich in die kesse Studentin. 24 Stunden später sind beide schon verheiratet. Mickeys jüngerer Bruder Francis und seine Frau Renée geraten ins Grübeln. Francis arbeitet hart für die Karriere an der Wall Street; Romantik ist in seiner Ehe längst zum Fremdwort geworden. Überdies geht er mit Heather fremd, der "Ex" von Mickey. Als der davon erfährt, entlädt sich der lang schwelende Bruderzwist. Selbst der Vater der beiden kriegt sein Fett weg: Nach 30 Ehejahren muss Mr. Fitzpatrick feststellen, dass seine Gattin nicht wirklich jeden Morgen zur Frühmesse geht...
