Released in 2007, Hounddog is a drama and musik film directed by Deborah Kampmeier, running about 102 minutes. “Every heart has an awakening. Every soul needs a song.” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. Der Film handelt von der schwierigen Kindheit des neunjährigen Mädchens Lewellen, die ein großer Fan von Elvis Presley ist und dazu auch noch sehr talentiert darin, seine Lieder zu singen. Hauptsächlich wird Lewellen von ihrer strengen und gottesfürchtigen Großmutter erzogen. Mit ihnen zusammen lebt noch Lewellens Vater, den sie abgöttisch liebt, der aber oft wochenlang verschwindet und dann plötzlich (manchmal auch mit einer neuen Frau) wieder auftaucht, oder eines Tages einfach ihren geliebten Hund erschießt. Als ihr Vater dann auch noch von einem Blitz getroffen wird, wird er infolgedessen verwirrt und pflegebedürftig.

Who’s in it. Hounddog stars Dakota Fanning as Lewellen, Oliver Clayton-Luce as Boy 3, Isabelle Fuhrman as Grasshopper and Cody Hanford as Buddy, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 6.2/10, Hounddog has drawn a solid, mixed-to-positive response.
