What it’s about. Botchan verlässt Tokio und seine gutherzige Haushälterin Kiyo, um im weit entfernten Matsuyama eine Stelle als Lehrer für Physik anzunehmen. In der Stadt und in der Schule angekommen, gibt er den Lehrerkollegen prompt Spitznamen wie »Rothemd« oder »Stachelschwein.« Bald muss er feststellen, dass ihm die Schüler nicht gut gesonnen sind und so kommt eins zum anderen. Anmerkung: 1986 wurde der Roman nochmals als Zweiteiler im Rahmen der Reihe Seishun Anime Zenshu verfilmt und von CPM in den USA veröffentlicht.
