What it’s about. Die Ermittlerin Rebecka Martinsson ist erfolgreiche Anwältin in Stockholm und begrüßt gerade ihren Chef Måns auf einem Empfang der Kanzlei, als sie einen Anruf aus ihrer Heimatstadt Kiruna erhält. Dort ist ein furchtbares Verbrechen geschehen. Gegen Måns' heftigen Protest verabschiedet sich Rebecka auf der Stelle und fliegt ins eisige Kiruna, um Sanna und ihren beiden Kindern beizustehen. Der Aufenthalt in ihrer ehemaligen Heimatstadt wird für Rebecka zu einer Reise in ihre eigene Vergangenheit. Als sie Ermittlungen über die Freikirche anstellt, trifft sie auf ihren Jugendfreund Thomas Söderberg.
