What it’s about. Im heruntergekommenen Atlantic City an der amerikanischen Ostküste lebt der alternde Kleingauner Lou, der gern von besseren früheren Zeiten phantasiert. Er ist in die junge Kellnerin Sally verliebt, die er allabendlich bei der Körperpflege beobachtet. Lous Chance kommt, als Sallys Ex-Mann Dave mit von der Mafia gestohlenem Kokain auf der Bildfläche erscheint. Dave will mit Lous Hilfe das Rauschgift zu Geld machen, wird aber Opfer erzürnter Mafiosi. Lou verkauft das Kokain, wird zu Sallys Beschützer und kommt ihr endlich näher. Doch beide wissen, dass ihre Beziehung nicht von Dauer sein kann.
