What it’s about. Für das das junge Ehepaar Martha und Paul Sabel läuft scheinbar alles prima: Kaum ist Pauls Promotion erfolgreich abgeschlossen, wird ihm bereits eine Stelle in einem Institut in Marseille angeboten. Martha beschließt, mit ihm nach Frankreich zu gehen, sie kümmert sich noch um die Aufgabe der Kölner Wohnung, bevor sie Paul hinterherreisen will. Doch schon einen Tag nach dessen Abschied steht die Polizei vor der Tür: Paul hat sich völlig überraschend das Leben genommen. Martha, der er keine Nachricht hinterlassen hat, ist fassungslos, um so mehr, als sie feststellen muß, daß Pauls Leben offenbar eine einzige Lüge gewesen ist. Hals über Kopf stürzt sich Martha in die Beziehung zum Uni-Dozenten Alexander, der sie an Paul erinnert, dem sie aber ihr Unglück verschweigt ...
