Black Nativity (2013): Besetzung, Handlung & Streaming

Released in 2013, Black Nativity is a drama and musik film directed by Kasi Lemmons, running about 93 minutes. “The Musical Event of the Holiday Season” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. Langston (Jacob Latimore) ist ein rebellischer Teenager, der bei seiner alleinerziehenden Mutter Naima (Jennifer Hudson) wohnt. Naima hat jedoch Probleme mit dieser großen Verantwortung und entscheidet sich, Langston an Weihnachten zu seinen Verwandten nach New York zu schicken, damit ihr mehr Zeit für sich bleibt. Reverend Cornell (Forest Whitaker) und Aretha Cobbs (Angela Bassett) empfangen Langston mit offenen Armen – doch der Teenager hat schnell Probleme mit Cornells Glaubenspraxis. Der Pastor verlangt etwa, dass jeder, der unter seinem Dach wohnt, zu seinen Predigten kommt und an den Tischgebeten teilnimmt. Irgendwann wird Langston klar, dass er Weihnachten nicht ohne seine Mutter verbringen möchte – also bricht er auf, um sie zu suchen. Auf dieser Reise findet er nicht nur zu sich selbst, sondern entdeckt auch die wahre Bedeutung von Glaube und Familie.

How it landed. With an audience score of 5.3/10, Black Nativity has proved divisive with audiences. It went on to earn $7M at the box office.
