What it’s about. Großbritannien um 1900: Der zwölfjährige Leo Colton verbringt den Sommer im Landhaus der wohlhabenden Familie seines Schulfreundes Marcus. Als dieser krank wird, nimmt sich stattdessen Marcus' ältere Schwester Marian seiner an. Marian ist bildhübsch und schon bald beginnt Leo, für sie zu schwärmen. Deshalb liegt es auch nicht fern, dass er ihr die Bitte, einen Brief für sie zu überbringen, nicht abschlägt. Von Stund an fungiert Leo als Kurier zwischen Marian und ihrem heimlichen Geliebten Ted Burgess. Nach einiger Zeit fliegt allerdings die Tarnung auf und Marians Mutter kommt dem Geheimnis auf die Spur. Und Liebschaften dieser Art sind in der Gesellschaft dieser Zeit gar nicht gern gesehen.
