An Weiberfastnacht ziehen sie um die Häuser und tauschen die Kleider. Anton wird erwischt und zu drei Wochen Gefängnis verdonnert. Er überredet seinen Gesellen Max, für fünf Mark pro Tag an seiner Stelle in den Knast zu wandern. Alles geht gut, bis Max überraschend stirbt und Anton offiziell für tot erklärt wird. Schon drängen sich die Verehrer um Antons vermeintliche Witwe Fin.
