What it’s about. Der achtjährige Mathias träumt davon, Pilot zu werden, und dass seine geschiedenen Eltern wieder zusammenkommen. Er wartet sehnsüchtig auf seinen neunten Geburtstag, denn der Vater hat ihm die Geschichte von Ikarus erzählt und versprochen, zum Geburtstag einen Rundflug mit ihm zu machen. Mathias ist tief getroffen, als der Vater nicht kommt. Er läuft durch die Stadt, spricht mit seinem Freund über die Beziehungen der Erwachsenen, sucht den Vater in dessen Zeitungsredaktion, gerät sogar mit der Polizei in Konflikt. Allein auf dem Dach eines Hauses kommt er zu dem Schluss, dass Ikarus nicht abgestürzt ist, weil er nicht auf seinen Vater hörte, sondern weil der ihn vergessen hat.
