Byron Haskin flüchtet am Silvestertag im Jahre 1999 zusammen mit seiner neuen Frau Clarissa und seiner jugendlichen Tochter Joany vor der Y2K-Hysterie in die verlassenen Wälder des Sierra Diablo Gebirges. Allerdings holt sie der Wahnsinn und Terror bereits nach kurzer Zeit wieder ein. Zunächst werden sie von einem bösartigen Hillbilly-Clan entführt, der sie zur Aufpolierung ihres Genpools missbrauchen möchte und dann bricht auch noch etwas aus dem Waldboden aus, dass weder die Haskins, noch die Kannibalen erwartet haben: der Millenniumkäfer. Dieses gigantische Insekt wurde seit 1000 Jahren nicht mehr gesehen und hat riesigen Hunger. Nun bricht für alle ein unerwarteter Überlebenskampf aus.
