What it’s about. Südafrika, 1985. Der 18-Jährige Johan Niemand (Schalk Bezuidenhout) liebt 'Boy George' und 'Depeche Mode'. Als er zum Beginn seines Wehrdiensts beim renommierten Soldatenchor 'Canaries' aufgenommen wird, kommt ihm das wie seine Rettung vor dem gefürchteten Militär gleich. Doch er merkt schnell, dass er auch dort eine bestimmte Rolle zu spielen hat. Der Chor hat die Aufgabe, die Werte des Staates und der katholischen Kirche zu verteidigen, ja anzupreisen. Als sich Johan während einer Tournee in einen singenden Kameraden verliebt, Wolfgang Müller (Hannes Otto), beginnt er die repressive Ordnungssystem um sich herum in Frage zu stellen und sein sexuelles Begehren genauer zu erkunden. Die Konfrontation mit seinen Vorgesetzten lässt nicht lange auf sich warten...
