What it’s about. Sommer 1915: Auch Lettland hat der Erste Weltkrieg erreicht und das deutsche Heer ist im russischen Kaiserreich einmarschiert. Der 16-jährige Arturs Vanags hat durch den Krieg seine Mutter und sein Zuhause verloren und schließt sich daraufhin der russischen Armee an. Zunächst hofft er, wie viele andere auch, auf Ruhm und Ehre, doch kaum erreicht er die Front, holt ihn die grausame Realität des Schlachtfeldes ein. Zum Ende des Krieges kommt es in den eigenen Reihen zu einem brutalen Bürgerkrieg. Die Revolution lässt den ersehnten Frieden damit immer weiter in die Ferne rücken.
