Ehe der Mann starb, konnte er Chefinspektor Harvey etwas Mysteriöses zuflüstern: Der grüne Finger! Was hat es damit auf sich? Harvey sucht Rat bei dem bekannten Kriminalschriftsteller und Detektiv Paul Temple. Doch ehe die beiden ausgiebig über die Affäre sprechen können, wird auch Harvey tot aufgefunden. Angeblich hat er Selbstmord begangen, doch Temple ist sich sicher, dass es sich um Mord handelt.
