What it’s about. Eine kleine Stadt am Rio Negro im Urwald Amazoniens ist die Wahlheimat der Schriftstellerin Pia und des Malers Gil. Pias Vorlieben sind Astronomie und Reisen. Diese verbindet sie in ihrem Buch über einen englischen Astronomen, der auf einer afrikanischen Insel die Sonnenfinsternis fotografierte und damit Einsteins Relativitätstheorie bewies. In der Nacht einer Mondfinsternis wird Pia ermordet. Ihr Tod stürzt Gil in eine Schattenwelt. Er verlässt die Stadt am Fluss und kehrt erst nach zwei Jahren in das gemeinsame Haus zurück. Dort ist Pia in seinen Erinnerungen und in seinem Herzen gegenwärtig. Diese Liebe, ihr Trost und das Mädchen Elsa führen ihn wieder ins Leben zurück. Dann begegnet er Pias Mörder.
