Der Grafiker und Videokünstler William Kentridge schuf eine emotional packende Inszenierung, der Bariton Matthias Goerne lieferte mit seinem betörenden Timbre eine zutiefst humanistische Deutung der Hauptrolle und der Dirigent Vladimir Jurowski am Pult der Wiener Philharmoniker arbeitete die atemberaubende Modernität der Partitur virtuos heraus.
