What it’s about. Der verarmte Bauer Wolfrat ist gezwungen, als Wilderer heimlich Tiere zu erlegen, um seine Familie ernähren zu können. Eines Tages wird er auf frischer Tat vom Klosterjäger Haymo ertappt. Verzweifelt und in Panik sticht Wolfrat den Grünrock nieder. Gittli, die Schwester Wolfrats, pflegt den Schwerverletzten gesund. Haymo und Gittli verlieben sich ineinander. Wenig später rettet Wolfrat dem Klosterjäger, der von einem Bären angegriffen wird, das Leben. Selber schwer verwundet, gibt er ein Geheimnis preis...
