What it’s about. Dezember 1958. Der Spieler Jack wird auf Kuba durch die attraktive Roberta in die politischen Wirren vor der Machtübernahme Castros verwickelt. Eigentlich nur auf der Suche nach einem "großen Spiel" lernt er ihren Mann Arturo, einen der Führer der Revolution, kennen. Als beide verhaftet werden, hat Jack gerade sein Spiel arrangiert. Hin- und hergerissen zwischen Profession und der Zuneigung zu Roberta, entscheidet er sich für die Frau. Er holt sie aus dem Gefängnis, Arturo gilt als tot. Jack und Roberta beginnen ein Verhältnis, doch als die Nachricht eintrifft, daß Arturo lebt, verzichtet Jack auf die Liebe seines Lebens. Als Castro am Neujahrstag die Macht übernimmt, kehrt Jack in die USA zurück.

Who’s in it. Havanna stars Robert Redford as Jack Weil, Lena Olin as Bobby Duran, Alan Arkin as Joe Volpi and Tomas Milian as Menocal, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 5.7/10, Havanna has drawn a solid, mixed-to-positive response. It went on to earn $9.2M at the box office.
