What it’s about. Der junge Eli Bloom hat es nicht leicht. Die Mitschüler mobben ihn, seine große Liebe Chloe will scheinbar nichts von ihm wissen und seine Mutter Penny ist ein Junkie. Aber er hat ein großes Talent: Eli ist ein begnadeter Klavierspieler. Er bekommt die einmalige Gelegenheit an einer renommierten Musikhochschule vorzuspielen. Eine Chance, die sein tristes Leben verändern könnte. Allerdings muss er auf dem Weg dorthin noch seine Mutter bei einer Entzugsklinik abliefern, damit sie endlich von ihren Drogen wegkommt. Doch Penny wird abgelehnt, da in ihrem Urin keine Drogen nachweisbar sind. Sie bekommen den Tipp, dass sie aufgenommen wird, wenn sie high ist. Also machen sich Eli und Penny auf zu ihrem Dealer Sprinkles, um Stoff zu besorgen. Der hat jedoch nichts mehr da und bevor Eli weiß was passiert, wird er zum Spanischübersetzer in einem großen Drogendeal.
