What it’s about. "Lea" ist die Geschichte eines sprachgestörten Mädchens aus einem Dorf der Ostslowakei und dem wohlhabenden Sonderling Herbert Strehlow. 1991 kommt Strehlow in die Slowakei, wo er Lea entdeckt, die seit ihrer Kindheit wegen eines traumatischen Familiendramas nicht mehr spricht. Er verliebt sich in Lea aufgrund ihrer verblüffenden Ähnlichkeit mit seiner verstorbenen Frau und kauft sie ihren Stiefeltern ab. Lea haßt Strehlow, seiner ambivalenten Persönlichkeit und seiner Gewaltausbrüche wegen. Sie zieht sich in ihre imaginäre eigene Welt von Visionen und Poesie zurück. Nach und nach jedoch dringen die beiden in die geheimnisvolle Sphäre des anderen ein und spüren, daß eine Art Geistesverwandtschaft sie verbindet.
