Sie beginnt in Algerien: Die Verteidigung der zum Tode verurteilten Bombenlegerin Djamila Bouhired nutzt er, um die Kolonialmacht Frankreich anzuklagen. Algeriens Nationalheldin kommt frei, Vergès heiratet sie und wird zum Staranwalt der Linken. Zwischen 1970 und 1978 ist Vergès spurlos verschwunden - man vermutet ihn u. a. bei seinem Jugendfreund Pol Pot. Nach seinem Wiederauftauchen verteidigt er den Superterroristen Carlos, RAF- und PLO-Aktivisten, Slobodan Miloševic und Saddam Hussein. Ob er Hitler verteidigt hätte?
