Doch Lucien überreizt die Gunst der Stunde und muss die wahren Mechanismen der Macht kennenlernen: Profit, Neid und falsche Wahrheiten. Er durchläuft eine bittere Schule des Lebens, denn er erkennt, dass in Paris alles und jeder käuflich ist, solange man weiß, welche Stricke man im Hintergrund ziehen muss.
