What it’s about. Die schöne Mrs. Paradin wird verdächtigt, ihren blinden Mann vergiftet zu haben. Der Anwalt Keane wird mit ihrer Verteidigung beauftragt. Obwohl verheiratet, erliegt er schon bald den verführerischen Reizen seiner charismatischen Mandantin. Als sich im Laufe des Verfahrens herausstellt, dass Mrs. Paradin ein Verhältnis mit ihrem Stallknecht Latour hatte, versucht Keane den Liebhaber in einem harten Kreuzverhör als Mörder zu entlarven. Das Manöver misslingt, Latour belastet Mrs. Paradin und begeht anschließend Selbstmord. Keane muss erkennen, dass seine Mandantin schuldig ist – seine Karriere ist zerstört.
