What it’s about. Das Ehepaar Jones nimmt in den 50er Jahren an Atomtests in der Wüste Nevadas teil. Ihr Baby Sam hat die Fähigkeit zur "spontanen Selbstentzündung", dem sogenannten Fire Syndrome, und verbrennt unbewußt seine Eltern. Ohne von seinen "Talenten" etwas zu ahnen, wächst Sam auf. Mit 34 brechen seine Veranlagungen aus ihm heraus. Immer mehr Bekannte aus seinem Umfeld und sogar er selbst fangen Feuer. Sam findet Hinweise auf seine Vergangenheit und muß erkennen, daß er Zeit seines Lebens nur ein Versuchskaninchen eines millionenschweren "Gönners" war. Er entfacht einen Feuersturm, der das Leben aller Beteiligten fordert und auch ihn tötet.
