What it’s about. Dia ist eine erfolgreiche Choreographin in New York. Als ihr Mentor und Guru Makarand im Sterben liegt, fliegt sie sofort mit ihrer Tochter nach Shamli in Indien, um ihn ein letztes Mal sehen zu können. Doch es ist bereits zu spät. Nur eine Videobotschaft ist ihr geblieben. Makarand bittet Dia, das Ajanta-Theater, in dem auch sie tanzen gelernt hat, vor dem Abriss für ein Einkaufszentrum zu bewahren. Die Bewohner von Shamli wenden sich allerdings von ihr ab, denn sie verließ die Stadt in Schande, als sie fortging, um einen Amerikaner zu heirateten. Shamlis Bürgermeister gibt Dia eine Chance: Wenn sie es schafft, in zwei Monaten ein Musical im Ajanta-Theater aufzuführen, in dem ausschließlich Bürger aus Shamli tanzen, kann das Ajanta-Theater bestehen bleiben. Ihr Kampf für den letzten Wunsch ihres Tanzlehrers, für die Seele der Stadt Shamli und nicht zuletzt für sich selbst beginnt.
