What it’s about. Das 2012 von Laurence Equilbey gegründete Insula Orchestra spielt auf historischen Instrumenten und experimentiert mit neuen Konzertformaten. Im Sommer 2018 stellt die französische Dirigentin mit ihrem Ensemble im Pariser Kulturzentrum La Seine Musicale ein wenig bekanntes Werk Mozarts vor: die Bühnenmusik zu "Thamos, König in Ägypten". Im Jahr 1773 bat der Autor Tobias Philipp Freiherr von Gebler seinen Freimaurergefährten Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, eine Bühnenmusik zu seinem Heldendrama „Thamos, König in Ägypten“ zu komponieren. Für das Schauspiel, das die im 18. Jahrhundert beliebte Ägypten-Thematik aufgriff, erdachte der Wunderknabe zwei Chöre und fünf Zwischenaktmusiken.
