Quantrill (Brian Donlevy) und seine Gefolgsleute, unter anderem seine Frau Kate (Audrey Totter), begleiten die Kutsche nach Border City. Dort werden sie aber unfreundlich empfangen, weil sie die Neutralitätsgrenze überschritten haben. Deshalb entscheidet die Bürgermeisterin Courtney (Nina Varela), die Armee der Nordstaaten zu Hilfe zu rufen, um Quantrill aus der Stadt zu verjagen…
