What it’s about. Matt, Jack und Leroy sind Freunde und begeisterte Surfer. Vom Schulabschluß 1963 aus zeigt der Film in Jahressprüngen und einzelnen Episoden die Entwicklungen, die ihr Leben mitmacht. Während Matt und Leroy dem Vietnamkrieg entgehen, wird Jack eingezogen und kehrt stark verändert zurück. Matt wird zum Alkoholiker, da er außer dem Surfen keinerlei Perspektiven im Leben hat, bis eine Frau ihn wieder auf den richtigen Weg bringt, während Leroy langsam ruhiger und Geschäftsmann wird. Mit den Jahren müssen sie feststellen, daß sie im Surfen von neuen jungen Cracks abgehängt wurden. Doch trotz aller Unterschiede treffen sie im Jahr 1974 an ihrem alten Strand wieder zusammen. Es ist der große Mittwoch, die Wellen sind lebensgefährlich hoch und die drei wollen es sich und allen anderen noch einmal beweisen...
