What it’s about. In kürzester Zeit soll der Chaos-Architekt Numerobis seiner launischen und spitznasigen Königin einen prächtigen Palast bauen. Sollte es ihm nicht gelingen, so wird ihn Kleopatra den Krokodilen zum Fraß vorgewerfen. Der Verzweiflung nahe wendet sich Numberobis an den gallischen Druiden Miraculix. Mit dem geheimnisvollen Zaubertrank gestärkt, reisen Asterix, Obelix und Miraculix samt Hündchen Idefix kurz darauf nach Ägypten, um Numberobis zu helfen. Die Bauarbeiten werden jedoch von dem hinterhältigen Pyradonis behindert, und die Freunde müssen - um die Lieferung neuer Steine zu sichern - ins Innere des Landes reisen. So erfahren wir endlich auch, weshalb die Sphinx heute keine Nase mehr hat und wie gefährlich ein Besuch der Pyramiden sein kann. Schließlich kommt der Bau mit Hilfe von Miraculix' Zaubertrank doch noch rasch voran. Bis zu dem Moment, als Cäsar die Sabotage der Bauarbeiten selbst in die Hand nimmt...
