What it’s about. Mama Efe (Rita Edochie) ist im guineischen Dorf Iyi die Frau, die als Medium im Diesseits mit der von den Dorfbewohnern angebeteten Meeresgöttin Mami Wata in Verbindung treten kann. Die Menschen aus Iyi zehren viel Kraft aus der Kultur, in der auch Mami Wata verwurzelt ist. Wie selbstverständlich werden dem Medium Mama Efe deshalb die eigenen Reichtümer anvertraut. Als Efe mit Prisca (Evelyne Ily Juhen) auch eine ihrer beiden Töchter zum Medium machen will, regt sich jedoch Widerstand. Zuerst werden Zweifel an Efes Kräften laut und letztlich wird sogar die Existenz von Mami Wata in Frage stellt.
