What it’s about. Der Astrobiologe Dr. Jeff Morrow möchte mit seinen beiden Kindern campen gehen. Leider setzt ein kurzer Zwischenstopp in seiner Forschungseinrichtung diesen Plänen ein Ende, da Adam auf den Teleskop-Monitoren ein sphärenartiges Objekt entdeckt, das sich der Erde rasend schnell nähert. Es kommt aus einem Bereich des Alls, in dem ein Jahr zuvor bereits sein Vater ein seltsames Signal entdeckte. Als das Objekt in die Erdatmosphäre eindringt und vor New York schwebt, wird schnell klar, dass dieses UFO außerirdischen Ursprungs ist! Alle Kommunikationsversuche schlagen fehl, so dass US-Präsident McCoy (Michael Paré) Dr. Morrow hinzuzieht, um zusammen mit Captain Jeffe (Paul Logan) den Erstkontakt herzustellen. Doch die kugelförmige Sphäre reagiert daraufhin mit tödlicher Gewalt und monströse Wesen nehmen die Bewohner ins Visier…
