What it’s about. Alexander Mihalkovich und Hanna Badziaka begeben sich für ihren Dokumentarfilm nach Belarus. Dort tritt der Jungspund Nikita voller Angst seinen Wehrdienst an. Parallel dazu zieht Svetlana mit dem Ziel, Gerechtigkeit für ihren bei der Militärausbildung gewaltsam ums Leben gekommenen Sohn zu erreichen, quer durch das Land. Im Jahr 2020 gehen Aktivisten gegen das, was Nikita und Svetlana im Nacken hängt, in der belarussischen Hauptstadt Minsk auf die Straße: die sogenannte „Dedowschtschina“. Dabei handelt es sich um schwere Misshandlungen an Soldaten in der Ausbildung. Behauptet wird, dass das die Jungen zu Männern macht. In Wahrheit ist auch das nur Teil einer gewalttätigen Maschinerie, mit der die Regierung die Bevölkerung kontrollieren will.
