What it’s about. In der vierteiligen britischen Miniserie „The City & The City“ hat Tyador Borlú (David Morrissey) als Inspector der Extreme Crime Squad in der Stadt Besźel reichlich Erfahrung mit Kapitalverbrechen vorzuweisen. So scheint auch der Tod einer ausländischen Studentin zunächst kein ungewöhnlicher Fall zu sein. Doch dann findet Tyador heraus, dass die Tote aus der Stadt Ul Qoma stammt – ein Ort, dessen Verbindung zu Besźel sich kaum begreifen lässt und die auch den Ermittler an seine Grenzen führen wird. Das Besondere: Die Zwillingsstädte Besźel und Ul Qoma teilen sich den gleichen physischen Raum und werden nur von den Einwohnern als unterschiedliche Städte empfunden, wobei es verboten ist, mit den Menschen der jeweils anderen Stadt in Kontakt zu treten.
