What it’s about. Der ehemalige FBI-Agent Ryan Hardy bekommt die schwierige Aufgabe, den aus dem Gefängnis entflohenen Serienmörder Joe Carroll erneut einzufangen und ihn sicher wieder hinter Gitter zu bringen, wo ihn ganz sicher die Todesstrafe erwartet. Hardy muss erschreckend feststellen, dass der charismatische Carroll während seiner Zeit des Lehrens und seiner Zeit im Gefängnis Anhänger um sich geschart hat, die seiner Mentalität und Weltanschauung folgen. Diese Schar von Anhängern entwickelt sich schon bald zum fanatischen Kult, bestehend aus blutrünstigen Killern. Als Carrolls Sohn Jack von eben diesen Anhängern entführt wird, entdeckt Hardy, dass dies nur der erste Schritt von Carrolls Plan ist, der dazu führt, Hardy zu erniedrigen und Carrolls Ex-Frau Claire zu ermorden.
