What it’s about. Harvey Wratten, einer der mächtigsten Unterweltbosse Londons, wird erschossen in seinem Auto aufgefunden. Nur kurz zuvor wurde Wratten unter seltsamen Umständen auf Bewährung aus dem Gefängnis entlassen. Der Mord wird von dem Scotland Yard-Ermittler Jonah Gabriel (Chiwetel Ejiofor) untersucht, der gerade von einem Fall abgezogen wurde, bei dem sein Partner starb und ihn selbst mit einer Kugel im Kopf zurückließ. Joseph Bede (Christopher Eccleston) wiederum wird als Wrattens Nachfolger in dessen dunklen Geschäften installiert. Er macht sich, ebenso wie der Polizist Gabriel, auf die Jagd nach dem Mörder des toten Gangsters.
