What it’s about. Der Junge Oliver Twist wächst in einem Waisenhaus auf, bis er von einem Sargtischler eines Tages aufgenommen wird. Dort verweilt er nicht lange, da ein Streit ihn zur Flucht nach London treibt, wo er in die Fittiche des zwielichtigen Fagin gerät, der ihn in seiner Diebesbande aufnehmen will. Bill Sikes und seine Freundin Nancy nehmen Oliver auf, doch als Mr. Brownlow bewusst wird, dass er Oliver irrtümlich eines Diebstahls bezichtigt hat, plagt ihn sein Gewissen und er nimmt den erkrankten Jungen in seine Obhut. Doch damit sind noch nicht alle Probleme gelöst, denn der Gauner Fagin will nicht von ihm lassen.
