What it’s about. Am 27. Juni 1942 verließ eine Karawane von Schiffen mit dem Codenamen PQ-17 Reykjavik in Richtung Archangelsk. Der Weg der Schiffe mit ihrer Ladung nach Russland führte über den Nordatlantik, wo sie eisigen Winden, stürmischer See und tödlichen Angriffen deutscher U-Boote und Bomber ausgesetzt waren. Aber die größte Bedrohung war das deutsche Schlachtschiff Tirpitz, dessen Auftauchen die britische Admiralität dazu zwang, den Rückzug der Deckungsschiffe anzuordnen, und die Transportschiffe mussten sich zerstreuen und eines nach dem anderen durchbrechen, wobei sie sich nur auf ihr Glück, ihren Mut und den Mut der Seeleute verlassen konnten.
