What it’s about. Von 1959 bis 1962 kamen in Deutschland etwas 5000 behinderte Kinder zur Welt, oft mit verkürzten und veränderten Gliedmaßen, aber auch sehr häufig mit Schäden an inneren Organen. Etwa die Hälfte der Kinder überlebte nicht. Im November 1961 stellt sich heraus, dass das Schlaf- und Beruhigungsmittel Contergan für die Behinderungen verantwortlich war. Der Wirkstoff Thalidomid hatte den Wachstumsprozess der Kinder im Mutterleib im frühen Stadium der Schwangerschaft gestört. In diesem Dokumentarfilm berichten Eltern der so genannten "Contergankinder", wie sie die Tragödie erlebten.
