Er war als junger Mann Minister im Guatemala des legendären Präsidenten Guzman, wohnte mit Che in Mexiko zusammen, arbeitet in der Regierung Allende und in der Fidel Castros, bevor er in seiner Heimat im Untergrund militanten Widerstand leistete und heute, 83jährig, linker Abgeordneter des Parlaments von Guatemala ist. Aufgrund des hohen Respekts, den Bauer Paiz geniesst, war es dem Filmteam möglich auch in der Freimaurerloge zu drehen. Der Film zeichnet das Vermächtnis eines aussergewöhnlichen Mannes und bringt Geschichte und Gegenwart Lateinamerikas zum Atmen.
