What it’s about. Bei Dear Boys dreht es sich um das Jungenbasketballteam der Mizoho High School. Das Team besteht nur aus vier Spielern, also Einem zu wenig. Der Grund dafür ist, dass Takumi Fujiwara im vorherigen Schuljahr seinen Coach geschlagen hat, weil er mit dessen Trainingsweisen nicht einverstanden war. So wurde das Team disqualifiziert und die meisten Spieler traten aus. Zurück blieben nur Takumi und seine Freunde Ranmaru Muira, Tsutomu Ishii und Kenji Dobashi. Zu viert können sie jedoch weder bei Spielen antreten noch vernünftig trainieren, daher ist ihr Team quasi auf Eis gelegt und die Schule verfügt nur noch über das recht erfolgreiche Mädchenbasketballteam.
