What it’s about. Die erste Farbversion einer Holmes-Verfilmung entstand mit der Verfilmung von „Der Hund von Baskervilles“, in der Peter Cushing als Holmes auftrat. Diese Version war so erfolgreich, dass die BBC in den Sechziger Jahren eine Fernsehserie in Auftrag gab, in der zunächst Douglas Wilmer Holmes spielte, später durfte erneut Cushing den Mantel des Detektiven überstreifen. Während für die amerikanische Version in den Fünfzigern eigene Geschichten entwickelt wurden, hielt sich die BBC ganz britisch korrekt eng an die Vorlagen Doyles.
