What it’s about. Vor drei Jahren ist der Ehemann von Celia Banks auf tragische Weise ums Leben gekommen. Seitdem lebt sie allein mit ihrer siebenjährigen Tochter Lilly und glaubt nicht mehr an ein erneutes Liebesglück. Nur Lilly spendet ihr Trost und Halt und deshalb kümmert sie sich liebevoll um das kleine Mädchen. Doch Lilly möchte nicht länger mitansehen müssen, wie ihre Mutter einsam ist. Da kommt ihr die passende Idee: Da Weihnachten kurz bevor steht, schreibt Lilly dem Weihnachtsmann einfach einen Brief. Und in dem wünscht sie sich, dass ihre Mutter sich neu verlieben soll. Wie durch einen Zufall gerät das Schreiben in die Hände von Jake Platt. Der ist ein erfolgloser Autor von Kinderbüchern und wird durch Lillys Brief nach langer Zeit wieder um Schreiben inspiriert. Als er einfach selbst auf den Brief antwortet, ahnt er noch nicht, was für eine Kette an Ereignissen er damit lostritt.
