What it’s about. 1995 reist Langston Whitfield nach Südafrika, um für die 'Washington Post' über die Wahrheitskommissionen zu berichten. Whitfield erfährt Geständnisse aus einem Sumpf aus Verbrechen, Verblendung, Dummheit und brutaler Berechnung. Die Art, wie Opfer und Täter miteinander umgehen, übersteigt die Vorstellungskraft des amerikanischen Journalisten. Am Rande freundet er sich mit der weißen südafrikanischen Schriftstellerin Anna Malan an, die als Radioreporterin an den Hearings teilnimmt. Und die Gräueltaten verschmelzen sich mit einer klassischen Liebesgeschichte...
