Diese hatte es nach dem Griechischen Bürgerkrieg in die Sowjetunion verschlagen, in welcher ihr Geliebter Spiros sie am Tag von Stalins Tod - ausgestattet mit den Papieren eines in Berlin verstorbenen Amerikaners griechischer Herkunft, der eine Einladung der Kommunistischen Partei erhalten hatte - aufspüren konnte, um sie mit sich außer Landes zu nehmen. Doch das Vorhaben scheiterte: Spiros und Eleni zeugten bei ihrem Treffen den späteren Filmemacher A., wurden aber gleich darauf entlarvt und getrennt. Eleni verbringt die nächsten Jahre in Sibirien, zusammen mit ihrem Freund Jacob Levi, der als jüdischer Kommunist Jahre zuvor aus Deutschland geflohen war. ...
