Wie Hauptdarsteller Yves Montand empfand er die Diktaturen in Osteuropa als Verrat am sozialistischen Ideal. Sein kritischer Kinohit "Das Geständnis" basiert auf dem Fall von Anton London (er heißt hier "Gérard"). Der stellvertretende Außenminister der Tschechoslowakei wurde 1951 im Auftrag der Stalin hörigen Partei gefoltert, bis er sich zu Unrecht der Spionage bezichtigte.
